Diamonds are forever - phoenix club seek FA Cup upset
xCruzo Brief
Rushden & Diamonds, reborn as AFC Rushden & Diamonds, will make their FA Cup first-round debut this weekend against League One side Burton Albion after the original club folded in 2011. Supporters were left reeling when Rushden & Diamonds’ finances collapsed following the exit of backer Max Griggs and Nene Park was later demolished. Chairman Rob Usher says the community response—“not gone, we’re not done”—has kept the Phoenix club alive, now in the eighth tier. About 2,000 fans will travel to Burton’s Pirelli Stadium. The club earned £23,194 so far and has beaten several sides to reach this stage.
