First finishers in the 6th AEGEAN 600
The 6th AEGEAN 600 produced the first finishers in near-record time as Meltemi winds stayed strong enough to drive results under challenging conditions. According to race coverage from the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club and hosts Olympic Marine, Claudio Demartis’s Reichel/Pugh 90 PROSECCO DOC SHOCKWAVE 3 crossed first at 2 days, 0 hours, 8 minutes, 27 seconds, only three hours off the 2023 course record set by the Farr 100 LEOPARD 3. George Procopiou’s Volvo 70 AIOLOS finished two minutes later after a close boat-for-boat contest. Andrea Micalli, tactician on SHOCKWAVE, described gusts of 30-35+ knots overnight with a Gennaker as waves broke. Helmsman Lorenzo Bressani said the downwind leg produced a speed test, breaking the boat’s top-speed record at over 30 knots. With more crews expected later, the race remains underway across the northern and eastern course reaches.
