Harvey Barnes signs new long-term contract with Newcastle United

Newcastle United have confirmed that Harvey Barnes has signed a new long-term contract, extending his stay at St James’ Park. The 28-year-old had two years remaining on his original deal, but the club persuaded him to commit further ahead of the new season. Barnes said it feels “great” to sign before kickoff and described the move as an “amazing journey,” pledging to continue. Joining Newcastle in 2023 from Leicester City, he has made 120 appearances across all competitions, scoring 30 goals. Last season, he produced 16 goals and six assists in 57 matches. The winger had been linked with Aston Villa after the Midlands club sold Morgan Rogers to Chelsea in a record £117 million deal. Newcastle also faces transfer pressure: Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have left, and interest remains in Bruno Guimaraes, with the club insisting he will not be sold despite Arsenal’s demand and Guimaraes’ reported desire to join.
