Lakeland Rowing Club brings home four golds from World Masters Regatta

Lakeland Rowing Club returned from the World Rowing Masters Regatta in Lake Bled, Slovenia, with four gold medals from nine racers. Held over five days on an eight-lane course, the event drew more than 4,500 competitors from 889 clubs worldwide and is open to athletes aged 27 and over. For Lakeland, women’s double crews led the haul, including Sam Ayers (55) and Julia McCumiskey (56), plus mixed success later in the week. Celia Whittam (69) won the first gold for the club in the women’s singles after weather swings included intense heat followed by thunderstorms and heavy rain. The team also took gold in women’s doubles and mixed doubles, with Sam Ayers and Nick Cowan earning mixed double titles.
