Lam Dong province deploys 10 key measures to combat IUU fishing

Lam Dong province is stepping up its crackdown on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing with 10 key measures linked to recommendations from the European Commission, announced after the EC’s fifth inspection on Vietnam’s efforts. Standing Vice Chairman Le Trong Yen said the plan was issued on August 25. The measures target gaps including ineligible fishing vessels, port controls, electronic fishing-trip data, seafood traceability and vessel monitoring system (VMS) violations. Authorities will also act against vessels detained by foreign authorities, require weekly progress reports, and hold agencies and localities directly accountable. A top priority is stopping local vessels from entering foreign waters illegally, supported by tighter checks before leaving port and cooperation with border guard and maritime enforcement in neighboring provinces.
