Legend Grant Morrison Criticizes 'Morally and Legally Incoherent' Lanterns Finale
Comic book writer Grant Morrison reviewed DC’s Lanterns and said the Season 1 finale was “morally and legally incoherent,” even while acknowledging the show “worked.” In a post on his Xanaduum Substack, Morrison admitted he “fell asleep” during episodes 6 and 7, describing TV as a rare moment of relaxation and drift. He credited the series’ mostly successful True Detective-inspired structure largely to Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. The critique sharpened with the ending: Kelly Macdonald’s Sheriff Kerry, revealed as Hal Jordan’s killer, fires a single shot after discovering her son Noah was a Manhunter. Morrison questioned why characters accept what he called a “psychotic break,” and said the Guardians’ response makes the Green Lantern Corps’ role as law enforcement unclear.
