Most beautiful tunnel in the world cost £75million and stretches 15 miles

The Lærdal Tunnel in western Norway is being highlighted as the world’s most beautiful tunnel, known for its lighting and air-quality features. The road tunnel is the longest in the world, running 24.5 kilometers (15 miles) beneath a mountain range and linking Aurland and Lærdal in Sogn. It provides a ferry-free connection between Oslo and Bergen, removing the need to travel by boat along that route. Construction began in 1995 and was completed in 2000, with 2,500,000 cubic meters of rock excavated during building. The project cost £75 million. The tunnel is divided into four sections by three large caves designed to reduce driver fatigue and claustrophobia, using white lights in the main stretch and blue-and-yellow hues along the cave edges. It is also equipped with an air treatment plant removing dust and nitrogen dioxide.
