Mukiele scores only goal as Sunderland beat Wrexham
Sunderland edged Wrexham 1-0 in the teams’ final pre-season friendly ahead of the new campaign. Playing in Philadelphia during their United States tour, Phil Parkinson’s side sealed the win when Nordi Mukiele scored on 33 minutes with a close-range finish after good build-up play from Habib Diarra and Brian Brobbey. Four minutes later, Nathan Broadhead reacted to a cross from new signing Daniel Imray and found the net, but the effort was ruled offside. Wrexham had chances, including shots across the face of goal, and Broadhead’s header was well gathered by goalkeeper Anthony Patterson. Wrexham next travel to Championship rivals Middlesbrough for an EFL Cup first-round match on Friday evening, before beginning their league season on Aug. 17 at Cardiff City.
