New York trip scandal triggers biggest political crisis yet for Argentina's Milei: Argentina’s libertarian president Javier Milei faces a major internal shake-up after Manuel Adorni—then chief of staff and presidential spokesman—resigned amid a corruption probe. Adorni had been photographed with his wife, Bettina Angeletti, during “Argentina Week” in New York in March, a business summit attended by senior officials while Angeletti had no public role. Questions spread in Argentine media and on social networks about whether she traveled using public funds. Under pressure, Adorni said he was in New York “breaking my back” working and that he wanted her to accompany him. The controversy expanded into allegations of illicit enrichment, undeclared assets, and illegal gifts, alongside reports of lavish spending that investigators say conflicts with his roughly $2,000-a-month government salary. Prosecutors examined cash payments, a private-jet family trip, a luxury home renovation with an artificial waterfall, and nearly $500,000 allegedly omitted from required declarations. The resignation came after just 100 days in the role.
