Two Venezuelan boys in a forest full of vultures: Silvana Trevale's best photograph
Two Venezuelan boys in a forest full of vultures: Silvana Trevale’s best photograph presents a personal narrative about migration, memory, and resilience. Trevale left Venezuela in the mid-2010s, after violence and shortages intensified; she studied at Huddersfield University in England, where she confronted a sense of not belonging while remaining deeply connected to her homeland. The beach scenes that followed—where the two brothers return from a fishing trip with their father—became the emotional core of her project, Venezuelan Youth, which documents growing up amid crisis and the urge to leave. Trevale describes photographing these moments with a Mamiya camera, capturing light and color that balance harsh reality with a sense of hope. The project later evolved into a published book, pairing her international experience with collaborations with Venezuelan creative directors to preserve identity through fashion and art.
