Hanson and Joyce bill taxpayers for flights to private events on luxury cruise ship hosted by Rinehart
Parliamentary records show One Nation MPs Pauline Hanson and Barnaby Joyce claimed travel expenses to attend fundraising and donor events on The World, a luxury cruise ship owned by mining magnate Gina Rinehart. The Guardian Australia reveals the trips included a private lunch for business leaders in Hobart on January 2, during which Hanson and her daughter hosted donors. The ship, described as the pinnacle of on-water luxury, features amenities including a full-size tennis court, marina, multiple restaurants, and a wine cellar. Under parliamentary rules, travel funds can be claimed only if parliamentary business is the dominant purpose, and One Nation has not explained how access to the ship was obtained. Joyce and Hanson reportedly attended another private donor event on The World in Sydney five days later, with Joyce using flights between Sydney and Brisbane. Hanson hosted a donor lunch in Brisbane on December 17, and Rinehart hosted a related fundraiser. Parliamentary expenses records show airfares for these trips totaled $1,264. One Nation did not provide details on access to the ship.
