PREP SOFTBALL: Northridge’s rally response runs out of time against Elkhart. In the Sectional 4 Championship at Jayco Field in Middlebury, Elkhart Lions led Northridge 13-2 before a late surge narrowed the gap to 13-7. Northridge (13-11) benefited from the four-hit efforts of senior Rachel Humbarger and a key pinch-hit by Kyla Kauffman, whose infield ball sparked the five-run fifth inning. Mia Branam’s RBI double and Willow Staley’s run-scoring single helped drive the rally as Northridge showed momentum but could not complete the comeback. Elkhart finished with 16 hits, using speed and depth to maintain the lead.
