Outdoors Bound Road Trip: Slammin' Summer Salmon!

A trip to Olcott, New York, on Lake Ontario is being framed as a “King Slayer” mission after local anglers target chinook salmon, also known as king salmon, that were introduced to the Great Lakes decades ago to help curb invasive alewives. In a day on the water with guide Andy Paramuschuck of Andy’s Angling Adventures, lines went in at 5:15 a.m. after a 4:45 a.m. departure. Because salmon are temperature dependent, baits were run in 60–80 feet to reach about 46.5°F. The outing produced multiple 15-pound-range kings and, over two days, 18 kept alongside dozens of released fish.
