Paul Merson picks surprising Arsenal star performer vs Everton

Arsenal won 2-0 at Everton on Saturday with defenders making the headlines. Ezri Konsa scored from close range after a corner, and Gabriel Magalhaes doubled the advantage with a header, helping the Gunners keep a clean sheet. Despite the centre-backs’ impact, former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson named club captain Martin Ødegaard as his standout performer. Merson said Ødegaard “was outstanding,” pointing to his comfort on the ball, his left foot and overall influence during the season. Ødegaard completed 89% of his passes (88% in the opposition half), pressed effectively, and took five shots, though Everton often blocked his attempts as they defended deep. Arsenal face another test next weekend at Anfield.
