People can go from zero to 100': How Gen Z is raking in $260,000 per month on a livestream auction app | Fortune
London-based startup Tilt is building a livestream auction marketplace where sellers broadcast in real time and viewers bid, creating a fast, interactive alternative to static listings. Through the platform, buyers can ask questions on air and compete in live auctions featuring items ranging from sneakers and beauty products to electronics and collectibles. Founders Neil Shah and Abhinavan Thanendran tell Fortune that the model is helping spark a new wave of Gen Z entrepreneurs: one 17-year-old reportedly scaled from selling from his grandmother’s bedroom to over $100,000 in a few months, while a deaf seller named Maddie surpassed $100,000 in June after starting with “upper five figures.” Tilt says another sneaker seller averages about $260,000 monthly. Launched in 2023, it aims to borrow momentum seen in China’s livestream commerce and differentiate with auctions rather than fixed-price formats. Tilt competes in the US with apps like Whatnot, launched in California and valued in the multibillion range.
