Princess Diana's 'revenge dress' goes up for auction

Sotheby’s will auction Princess Diana’s so-called “revenge dress” on 9 December, expecting a price of up to $300,000 (£220,000). The strapless black silk evening dress was worn by the late Princess of Wales at a London party hours after Prince Charles admitted adultery during his marriage. Diana’s arrival in 1994 at the Serpentine Gallery, wearing the outfit, became a defining pop-culture moment. Sotheby’s says it will be sold for the first time since 1997, when she sold 79 dresses months before her death for charity. The dress will tour Sotheby’s showrooms from 18–24 September in London, then to Hong Kong, Geneva and New York.
