Stone Cold Aztecs keep Old Oil Can in gutsy, back-and-forth win over Fresno State
San Diego State kept the Old Oil Can with a 26-23 win over Fresno State at Snapdragon Stadium, sealing the result with a field goal in the final minute. Freshman quarterback Stone Saunders—back in his first appearance since breaking his clavicle in the season opener—led a 10-play, 40-yard drive that ended at 3:38 with kicker Cooper DiLeva converting a career-long 53-yard attempt with 57 seconds left. The Aztecs finished 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the Pac-12. They forced Fresno to fail on fourth down after a defensive stand featuring edge Kai Wallin’s third sack of the game. Despite losing captain QB Jayden Denegal to a right leg injury, SDSU got a 67-yard run from Lucky Sutton, the team’s longest play of the season, and maintained rivalry control.
