Super Troopers' at 25: A quarter-century of mustaches and maple syrup -- and a new film | HITS 99.9FM

“Super Troopers” is celebrating 25 years since its 2001 breakout, and Broken Lizard is bringing the mustache-and-maple-syrup humor back with “Super Troopers 3,” due Aug. 7 through Searchlight Pictures. Made for under $3 million, the original film cast Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske as juvenile Vermont state troopers, with Brian Cox as their cantankerous chief. It became a cult hit, earning $23 million in theaters and far more on VHS and DVD. The troupe has kept the franchise alive—turning to crowdfunding for “Super Troopers 2”—and credits their long friendships since Colgate University as the “special sauce.”
