Swindon MP says 'it's been fantastic trip' to China
Swindon MP says 'it’s been fantastic trip' to China as Heidi Alexander, the Swindon South MP, traveled to China to examine advances in rail, bus, aviation, and maritime transport. During the visit, she met in Beijing with her Chinese counterpart Liu Wei to discuss potential collaboration in aviation and maritime sectors. Alexander said she went to share UK work across multiple transport modes and to learn how to address shared challenges. She toured major projects including Tongzhou station, described by Alexander as comparable in size to The O2 and noted as the largest transport hub in Asia that integrates metro, rail, and bus services. The trip also included meetings with businesses working with UK firms and acknowledgement of hosts including DiDi autonomous vehicles, the China Britain Business Council, Rolls-Royce, and the UK embassy team in Beijing.
