The Detroit Tigers traded ace Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers, leaving the team to navigate an uncertain final two months of the season without their top pitcher. The deal, agreed late Saturday, sent three minor-league prospects to Detroit: River Ryan, Brady Smith and outfielder Zyhir Hope. Skubal, a 2018 ninth-round draft pick, won the AL Cy Young Award in 2024 and 2025 and posted a 2.40 ERA over the past three seasons. This season he was 7-5 with a 2.79 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 96 2/3 innings. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Detroit must be “cold” and focus on the day-to-day despite the loss. The trade broke during Detroit’s 8-6 win over the A’s.
