Trump meets munitions makers amid push to replenish weapons stockpiles
President Donald Trump met with munitions makers at the White House on Wednesday as the administration sought to expand weapons production after U.S. stockpiles were drawn down by operations in Iran and other conflicts. Pentagon negotiators are working with defense contractors to triple production of Patriot interceptors, quadruple output of THAAD interceptors, and increase production of Tomahawk cruise missiles and AMRAAM air-to-air missiles. Two sources said the meeting ran longer than expected because executives were given time to speak, and Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg at times pushed back on industry claims about progress, citing delays. One source said the initial message was “you’re not doing enough,” but officials later shifted toward cooperation and the goal to “get on a war footing.” The White House did not immediately provide details. The initiative follows a March meeting and relies on framework agreements not yet converted into contracts, with executives noting Congress must appropriate funding first.
