USMNT's Sergiño Dest salvages point for PSV with goal in Champions League opener

Sergiño Dest scored early in the second half to earn PSV Eindhoven a 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in their UEFA Champions League opener. Dest struck three minutes after the restart, racing to Armando Obispo’s cutback into space at the top of the box and finishing from inside the Shakhtar area. The goal was Dest’s second career Champions League tally, following one in 2023 for Barcelona against Dynamo Kiev. He had also appeared to be fouled during the buildup to Shakhtar’s first-half stoppage-time goal but no call was made. For U.S. fans, Dest and Ricardo Pepi are central to PSV’s watch list this season.
