Why is Naomi Girma not playing for USWNT vs. Spain today?

Naomi Girma will not play for the U.S. women’s national team against Spain due to an injury suffered in training with Chelsea. Girma was initially named to the 26-player roster for two friendlies but withdrew after the setback. Kate Del Fava of Utah Royals was called up as Girma’s replacement. The USWNT will face Spain first on Saturday, Oct. 10, in which they lost 2-0 after a slow start that saw Spain score twice within the first 15 minutes. The teams meet again Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania. Girma has 54 caps and has started every minute at both the 2023 World Cup and 2024 Olympics.
