Asda announces change to all Express stores in the UK

Asda says it has changed pricing across its 517 UK Express stores by installing electronic shelf-edge labels. The rollout replaces more than 120,000 paper labels every week and covers 1.2 million electronic labels in total. Asda invested more than £7.5 million and says the switch removes the need for staff to update prices manually, giving teams more time to serve customers while improving availability and store standards. The labels show pricing, unit costs, weights and promotional information, with extra ingredient and allergen details for some products including bakery items. Asda also said it’s trialling shelf-edge availability cameras in five larger stores, planning wider deployment. Separately, Asda recalled three handbags due to a “serious chemical risk” from excess phthalates, advising consumers to stop using them and return them for a refund.
