China emerges as key growth driver for India's frozen shrimp exports; US remains top market in FY26
China is emerging as a key growth driver for India’s frozen shrimp exports, even as the United States remains the top destination in FY26. India’s Department of Commerce reported that frozen shrimp exports reached a record high in FY 2025-26, citing sustained global demand for Indian seafood and wider international reach of marine exports. The infographic shared by the ministry states the United States stayed the largest market, with shipments worth $1.61 billion. Exports to China surged to $941.6 million, making Beijing a major growth engine. The ministry’s figures also show overall exports at 1,972,018 metric tonnes valued at Rs 73,890.46 crore (about $8.46 billion). The government is working to diversify seafood export destinations, including by hosting a two-day “Chintan Shivir” in Visakhapatnam earlier in June. MPEDA Chairman K S Srinivas said demand for value-added products is strong and diversification remains a strategy.
