European Markets Close Higher As Oil, Bond Yields Drop After Fed Rate Hike
xCruzo Brief
European stocks finished higher Thursday as oil prices fell and bond yields eased after the Federal Reserve’s 25-basis-point rate hike. The Fed also signaled it could raise rates again later this year, but traders appeared more comfortable with its resolve to bring inflation under control, which helped stabilize government bond markets. The Bank of England left rates unchanged at 3.75% for a sixth straight meeting. In Europe, the pan-European Stoxx 600 rose 0.86%; the UK’s FTSE 100 gained 1.19%, Germany’s DAX climbed 0.70%, and France’s CAC 40 ended 0.57% higher. Markets also tracked Eurostat’s data showing eurozone inflation at 3.2% in August.
