xCruzo Brief
London’s FTSE 100 slipped further in afternoon trade, down 114 points at 10,697 by 3pm, as oil prices pushed above $100 and inflation fears resurfaced. Wall Street opened lower, with the Dow at 52,707.90, down 78.2 points, while S&P 500 and Nasdaq also fell. Energy stocks led gains: higher crude lifted BP and Shell. Brent crude rose to $100.85 a barrel, supported by worries about Middle East supply disruptions after attacks on energy infrastructure and shipping. Spot gold climbed $71.35 to $4,426.90 as the yen hit a seven-month high. Broker updates were mixed, including HSBC cutting Burberry to “hold,” and RBC starting AstraZeneca at “outperform.”
