Skillet's John Cooper says woke activists have 'big hearts' but are 'hurting themselves'
Skillet frontman John Cooper said in a new interview that people branded as “woke” often start with good intentions, but he argues their approach can “hurt society.” Speaking on a podcast, Cooper said those he considers “woke” have “big hearts” and want justice and a better world, yet he warned they go about it “in a way that they don’t know is wrong,” harming both themselves and others. He pointed to worsening conditions in inner cities and criticized politicians he said claim to help marginalized groups while “hurting them more and more.” Cooper attributed his disagreement to Christian faith and cited a belief that the views conflict with the Bible. He also reiterated support for free speech and said he’s declined to tour only on rare occasions.
