Emma Layton, representing Maria’s Market Cafe, said the business—trading for 65 years—was being forced out of a prime spot in the middle of the market. Layton said the situation has created “loss, remorse and confusion” and called on market bosses to explain why the renewal decision was made. Borough Market responded that, after a lease expires, decisions are taken through a formal review process that considers a range of factors.
