Korea Box Office: Na Hong-Jin's 'Hope' Holds Firm at No. 1 as Market Slows

Na Hong-Jin’s science-fiction thriller “Hope” stayed at No. 1 in South Korea during the weekend of Jul. 24–26, holding the top spot despite a slowing market. KOBIS data show the big-budget title earned $5.5 million from 767,366 admissions over three days, taking 66.8% of total box-office revenue. Directed by Na Hong-Jin, the film stars an ensemble led by Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Jung Ho-yeon, Michael Fassbender, and Alicia Vikander. It has now accumulated $25.3 million from 3,415,707 viewers since setting a record opening earlier. “Minions & Monsters” ranked second with $793,103 and $3.9 million total. Disney’s “Moana” was third, “Toy Story 5” fourth, and faith-based animated “David” fifth.
