Kwamigah-Atokple Markets Volta Region to US Investors in Chicago

A Ghanaian policy figure urged U.S.-based investors to back the Volta Region as the country’s next investment frontier during a Chicago diaspora forum. Council of State member Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple pitched the plan at the fifth Annual Business Exchange Forum, described as an Invest in Ghana Dialogue, sharing the stage with Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Chief Executive Simon Madjie and Illinois State Representative Sonya Harper. The session centered on Volta, presented as promising but underexplored, with emphasis on fertile land, water resources, tourism sites, and a planned port and harbour positioned to serve as a trade gateway for Ghana and West Africa. Kwamigah-Atokple linked the regional pitch to a national context, citing GIPC’s Investor Opportunities Mapping Project profiling more than 190 investment-ready opportunities across six regions. He also referenced a Ghana Investment Promotion Authority Bill passed by Parliament to replace the GIPC Act. The forum, partly organized by Chicago’s Progressive Minds Show, drew investors and development partners.
