Limits: Fish and Game announces that anglers can catch all they want on East Idaho's canals
Idaho Fish and Game has announced a limited-time fish salvage opportunity for anglers as East Idaho irrigation canals dry for winter. From Oct. 30 to Nov. 30 in the Upper Snake and Southeast regions, all bag, possession and size limits are suspended. The order allows licensed anglers to keep fish taken from the canals for food or other uses, aiming to prevent thousands of stranded fish when water is shut off. Any method is permitted except firearms, explosives, chemicals or electrical current. Fish can’t be moved alive, and anglers must obtain landowner permission before fishing canal segments crossing private property. Sturgeon is the major exception: it must be released immediately and reported to Fish and Game, and it cannot be kept. The order lists dozens of canal segments in both regions.
