Phil Collins said he came close to death in 2024 after alcohol-related health problems. The Genesis and solo star, who stopped drumming several years ago due to earlier health issues, told The Sunday Times he spent seven months in hospital after suffering organ failure. He also said the possibility of turning off life support was raised. Collins described the way his drinking habits returned: he had been drinking wine again, even saying he wanted “a glass of wine” for breakfast. He had stopped in 2012 following a prior health alert, then resumed in 2023, which led to the hospitalization. The 75-year-old later confirmed his health improved and said he has not had a drink since. Collins’ Genesis return included The Last Domino? tour starting in 2021, with his son Nic drumming.
