Retirement, wealth and AI for Asia investors
For Asia-based investors, navigating markets is getting harder as geopolitical uncertainty, persistent inflation and wider performance dispersion across markets increase the need for research and selectivity. In a Q&A, Janet Perumal of Wellington Management—head of Asia-Pacific investments and head of the Singapore office—argues that when information is abundant, the edge comes from turning it into actionable insight, making active management more relevant. Wellington manages US$1.37 trillion (S$1.75 trillion) for clients across more than 60 markets and opened its Singapore office in 1996. Perumal says Wellington’s independence model—no single firmwide CIO and reliance on debate across teams—supports a global research ecosystem of more than 800 investment professionals, relevant for retirement reform, private-market access and AI-driven portfolio management trends.
