Stocks swing Wall Street closer to its record | Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
Wall Street took another step toward its all-time record Tuesday, with artificial intelligence stocks driving the rise as their recent volatility eased. The S&P 500 climbed 0.6% and ended just 1.2% below the all-time high set earlier this month. The Dow Jones added 15 points, less than 0.1%, while the Nasdaq composite gained 1.2%. Even though most S&P 500 stocks declined, standout performances from AI companies lifted the index. Broadcom surged 4% after announcing a $63 billion financing package that would help Anthropic access Broadcom’s XPU AI accelerators and networking tools. Nvidia rose 0.9% and was among the strongest contributors. CoreWeave jumped 7.9% after days of sharp swings. Outside tech, General Motors rose 5.5% as it shifted its listing from the NYSE to Nasdaq. JetBlue ended up 19% after reporting a larger summer loss than expected, while Royal Caribbean Group gained 5.5% following a stronger-than-expected summer profit and a raised full-year forecast. Losses included Boeing (-10.7%) and Hilton (-2.1%).
