The SF Giants need pitching. Who's available on the free-agent market?
The San Francisco Giants’ 2026 season ended with a need they can’t ignore: pitching. The team finished 23rd in ERA (4.34) and 27th in strikeout-to-walk rate, and its expected metrics were also weak, placing 21st in expected ERA and 23rd in expected FIP. Adding complexity, four pitchers—Hayden Birdsong, Trevor McDonald, Carson Whisenhunt and Blade Tidwell—are undergoing UCL procedures, reducing depth. President of baseball operations Buster Posey acknowledged bullpen struggles while noting the rotation also lacks established depth after Logan Webb, Landen Roupp and Adrian Houser. The club will likely target multiple impact starters and relievers, including a true closer, with free agency shaped by large contract constraints and a lockout expected to begin after the current CBA expires on Dec. 1.
