What time does the stock market open? Hours and futures
xCruzo Brief
The best-known “open” time for U.S. stocks—the NYSE and Nasdaq bell at 9:30 a.m. Eastern—is only part of the trading picture. Regular trading runs Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern, but pre-market and after-hours sessions extend activity on either side, with broker access rules varying by firm. Stock index futures follow a separate timetable: CME Group’s Globex opens the futures week Sunday evening and closes Friday afternoon, with a daily short break. Earnings, economic releases, and overseas news often hit while exchanges are closed, and trading liquidity differs by session and holiday calendar.
