Atletico Madrid is on top of La Liga and Kane honored in Germany before Klassiker
Atletico Madrid moved to the top of La Liga for a few hours by beating Levante 2-0, with Alejandro Grimaldo scoring in the 36th minute after a missed interception and Giuliano Simeone adding the second. Atletico went one point ahead of Barcelona, which can reclaim first place later Saturday against Alaves. The day also included mourning across Spanish football after a deadly train collision: players wore black armbands, and the Spanish federation postponed 24 Copa del Rey matches scheduled for Wednesday. In Germany, Bayern Munich honored Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane before hosting Borussia Dortmund, but coach Vincent Kompany was absent after being released from hospital following a sudden collapse last week. Elsewhere, Manchester City lost at home to Brighton 1-0, leaving Arsenal able to take top spot on Sunday.
