Bills news: What does former UFL MVP bring to Buffalo's backfield?
The Buffalo Bills signed running back Ian Wheeler, a former United Football League MVP, to bolster their backfield behind star James Cook. Wheeler, an undrafted rookie from Howard University in 2024, spent time with the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints after a torn ACL cut short his 2024 season. In two Bears preseason games against the Bills, he rushed five times for 43 yards with two touchdowns at Highmark Stadium in 2024, and 19 carries for 80 yards with two TDs in 2025. Wheeler starred in the 2026 UFL season, rushing 541 yards on 83 carries in 11 games with eight touchdowns, plus 170 yards and two TDs in the playoffs. During his Howard tenure, he totaled 1,154 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, along with 23 receptions for 234 yards and 42 kickoff returns for three TDs. He will compete for snaps during training camp and the preseason.
