Broncos' struggles on offense continue in Sean Payton's return to play-calling
xCruzo Brief
Sean Payton’s return to play-calling didn’t immediately cure the Denver Broncos’ offensive woes, but it helped them keep winning. In Inglewood, Calif., Denver totaled 224 yards and edged the winless Los Angeles Chargers 23-17 on Sunday. After a slow start, the Broncos scored 13 points in the fourth quarter. Bo Nix tied the game with an 8:53 touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton and drove again to set up Wil Lutz’s go-ahead 36-yard field goal with 1:08 left. Denver went 1-for-12 on third downs, yet benefited from three Chargers turnovers late. Payton said the running game got more emphasis, and Denver had season highs of 106 rushing yards and 29 rush attempts.
