Coinbase wants to become an 'Everything Exchange' for Canadians, new CEO says
Coinbase says it wants to become an “Everything Exchange” for Canadians, aiming to move beyond cryptocurrency trading by letting users hold multiple financial assets in one place. Eric Richmond, country director and CEO of Coinbase Canada, told BNN Bloomberg that the initiative began in the U.S. to enable trading of crypto plus U.S. stocks, ETFs, derivatives, and prediction markets from a single interface. While Coinbase has not given a specific Canadian launch date, Richmond said it is working toward it with regulators. He also described a “phase two” shift from being only a crypto exchange. Separately, Coinbase said it plans to release tokenized stocks for non-U.S. customers this month, with tokenized ownership intended to include dividend payouts and shareholder rights. Coinbase cited stablecoin regulation as another potential enabler for new products in Canada.
