Communication gap led to Azizul uncertainty, says Taufiq

Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said a communication breakdown caused the recent uncertainty over track cycling star Datuk Azizulhasni Awang’s participation in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Taufiq said the decision for Azizulhasni to continue his campaign was made Aug 13, but a formal offer letter was delayed and only produced Sunday (Aug 30). Addressing the issue, he said he instructed the National Sports Council (NSC) and its board on Aug 13 to evaluate and agreed that Azizul should represent Malaysia at LA 2028. He acknowledged internal misunderstandings and said Azizul accepted after the letter arrived. The cyclist, 38, previously sought a firm ruling to plan his qualification.
