Country women fall short against powerful PFL outfit
WA Country’s women’s team fell short against a strong Perth Football League (PFL) outfit, losing by 29 points at HIF Health Insurance Oval on Friday night. In a State clash, the PFL won 10.6 (66) to 5.7 (37), fueled by a strong start and finish after a mixed middle period. WA Country, coached by Sheridan Kowald, struggled during goalless first and fourth quarters, despite winning momentum later with additional goals in the second and third terms. PFL’s late surge—three goals to none in the final stanza—sealed the result. Railways’ Kiahn Perry led for the losing side with two goals plus 10 disposals and three marks, while WA Country’s Great Northern player Olivia Bidwell earned best-on-ground, kicking two goals from nine disposals. For PFL, Jessica Schleicher kicked four goals, Sara Sammons won best-on-ground with seven disposals and four tackles, and PFL ruck Kelsey Timms recorded 16 disposals, 14 hit-outs, four clearances and a goal.
