Dusty May never imagined coaching in NBA, says he prepared for jump to Mavericks from college | Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
Dusty May never imagined coaching in the NBA, but he is now preparing for the Dallas Mavericks after Michigan won its first national championship in 37 years. Speaking at an introductory news conference in Dallas on Monday, May said the league had not been a childhood dream, while noting he began preparing “years ago” by studying how to manage at the highest level. He met with Mavericks basketball operations president Masai Ujiri, and the announcement drew attention from several key figures, including reigning Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg. Morez Johnson Jr. was also present after being drafted No. 9 overall last week, the first of three Michigan players taken within four lottery selections. May replaces Jason Kidd, after Dallas missed playoffs two straight seasons and finished 2024-25 at 26-56.
