Household access to renewable energy in Northern Uganda is reported at 70.5% in Lira and Gulu districts, but the study stresses that “renewable access” is not the same thing as diversified clean generation. Electricity accounts for 68.0% of renewable access and solar for 47.9%, while wind and biogas are nearly absent, leaving the region dominated by two technologies. The authors note Uganda’s grid is overwhelmingly hydropower-based—hydropower was 93.4% of grid generation in 2023 and about 92% of installed capacity is renewable—so grid users may consume clean power without knowing the mix. Excluding grid electricity lowers the prevalence yet preserves broadly similar predictors.
