Georgia AG threatens legal action as LSU, SEC clash over former NFL players

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr says he will push the SEC to suspend or remove LSU from the conference if the school rosters former NFL players. Carr’s Sept. 2 letter to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey—obtained by CBS Sports—urges SEC action, arguing the league’s policy is being circumvented while LSU’s legal fight continues. The SEC recently reaffirmed rules barring member schools from rostering athletes who entered the NFL draft and did not properly withdraw, signed with a pro team, or appeared on a pro roster. Carr also referenced temporary court orders in Texas and Louisiana blocking enforcement. The dispute escalated Thursday as the SEC sued LSU and coach Lane Kiffin.
