What Kirby Smart said reports that Georgia’s running back depth took a hit after transfer Dante Dowdell suffered serious injuries in an off-campus incident during the offseason. Speaking at SEC Media Days on Tuesday in Tampa, Florida, coach Kirby Smart said Dowdell was hurt in an “off campus accident back home during our break,” and that the program is “praying for him and his family.” Smart said a full recovery is expected but the outlook is “wait and see,” adding Dowdell is in Georgia after being treated at multiple hospitals and is not with the team. The 6-foot, 225-pound Dowdell rushed for 560 yards and three touchdowns as a junior in 2023, and led Georgia’s G-Day with 61 yards and a touchdown. Georgia also noted earlier spring loss of edge rusher transfer Amaris Williams to an ACL injury, while Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens returned as top rushers, along with Dwight Phillips and Bo Walker.
