Hungarian companies pivot after Orban's allies lose political influence

Hungarian firms linked to former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán are scaling back major projects and reassessing operations after Péter Magyar’s election win ended Orbán’s 16-year rule, according to Reuters. Magyar’s new government says it will address alleged favoritism in public procurement and review contracts awarded under the previous administration. Construction companies reliant on state-funded infrastructure face the biggest exposure as tenders become more competitive. Market Építő, one of Hungary’s largest construction firms, plans to pivot toward smaller housing and infrastructure projects after roughly a quarter of its revenue came from public contracts. Duna Aszfalt says it is ready to compete, after the government suspended an extension of a southern motorway and asked for repayments tied to the project.
