India News | DMK Accuses Minister Aadhav Arjuna of Trying to Influence CBI Probe into Karur Stampede Case
A dispute over the Karur stampede investigation in Tamil Nadu has intensified after DMK accused minister Aadhav Arjuna of trying to influence a CBI probe. Speaking on July 3 in Chennai, DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai said Arjuna’s remarks alleging that the DMK government, through the police, was responsible for the deaths of 41 people could prejudice the ongoing Central Bureau of Investigation. Annadurai rejected those claims, citing that the case was investigated by Tamil Nadu Police and later transferred to the CBI by the Supreme Court. He added that the CBI has named Aadhav Arjuna as an accused and argued that allegations by an accused amount to witness intimidation. Annadurai said families of the deceased are also victims and witnesses, and their involvement makes statements particularly risky for the investigation. He also claimed TVK leadership is acting from political frustration and said DMK plans to move the Supreme Court against Arjuna’s remarks and a proposed visit by TVK chief Vijay.
