The report cited higher costs for rent and airfare, while gasoline and grocery prices fell. Lettuce prices dropped 16% after a deadly Cyclospora outbreak prompted a recall of iceberg lettuce from Mexico, and retailers responded with steep discounts. The lower produce costs contributed to about a 0.1% drop in grocery prices last month, though groceries remain up about 2.7% over the past year. With inflation easing, the Federal Reserve may focus on whether trends persist.
